Mumbai Fighters sets up base at Balewadi

Mumbai Fighters, the Indian franchise in the forthcoming World Series Boxing 2011-2012, have set up base at the Balewadi Sports Complex, near Pune, in preparation for the November 11-12, 2011 event.

Joe Clough is the technical director and Shiv Kumar Pal the head coach for the franchise, owned by TransStadia India Boxing Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of SE TransStadia Pvt. Ltd.

Mumbai Fighters will take on Italian franchise Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder in a home tie at Balewadi.

Mumbai Fighters will have a team of 21 boxers, 14 Indians and seven foreigners. The Indian franchise will work in association with the world boxing body AIBA, WSB and Indian Boxing Federation (IBF).

WSB will see boxers in the ring competing sans vests or head guards. Scoring will be professional style, three judges, one referee and one supervisor.

A WSB contest comprises five bouts, with each lasting five rounds of three minutes each.

Weight categories: bantamweight (54kg), lightweight (61kg), middleweight (73kg), light-heavyweight (85kg) and heavyweight (91+kg).
