Mohammed Asab shot 145 and topped the double trap list in the second shotgun selection trials held at the Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, here on Wednesday.
The National championship silver medallist shot impressive rounds of 48, 48 and 49 to beat Ankur Mittal by two points. The latter had topped the first trials with a score of 144, after having fared miserably in the National championship where he shot 134.
Ronjan Sodhi scored 142, following rounds of 48, 47 and 47 to lift his average. He had made 138 in both the second trial and the National championship. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore shot 135, after having scored 144 on way to the gold in the National championship recently. He had shot 138 in the first trial.
Asab, Rathore and Sodhi were on top of the table in that order after the averages were worked out, and should be making the team for the first two World Cups.
The selection committee will meet on February 11 to decide the shotgun teams for the World Cups.
In trap, Asian champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu had fallen sick before the second trial and was given exemption to shoot the trial separately on Friday. He had shot very well both in the National championship and the first trial. Mansher Singh and Zoravar Singh Sandhu followed Manavjit Sandhu in the average calculations so far.
In skeet, Smit Singh (122) and the reigning national champion Parampal Singh Guron (120) were ahead of the pack in the second trials. Former national champions, Allan Daniel Peoples and Mairaj Ahmad Khan shot 118 each.
In the averages, Guron, Peoples and Smit Singh were ahead of the others, in the race to gain selection. Among the juniors, Mohd. Hamza Sheikh, Anantjeet Naruka and Karan Sukhbir Singh were on top in that order.
