Milkha Singh's noble gesture

January 25, 2012 12:03 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:47 pm IST - Chandigarh:

Legendary athlete Milkha Singh has donated his pair of shoes, which he wore during the 1960 Rome Olympics, for a charity auction to be held in Mumbai on February 11.

Milkha said certain things were priceless, but there was nothing wrong in parting with them for a noble cause.

“I hope the charity auction will fulfil someone's dream,” he said.

He said Bollywood actor Rahul Bose, whose NGO would be carrying out the auction, had told him that there was a charity auction for the benefit of the blind and other needy children.

Milkha said that he had earlier given another pair of shoes worn during the Rome Olympics to the sports museum at Patiala, but had kept this particular pair of shoes for over five decades.
