Mary Kom loses in CWG trials

London Olympics bronze medallist boxer M.C. Mary Kom, returning to action after a gap of almost two years, lost to Pinki Rani Jangra in the women’s 51kg selection trials for the Commonwealth Games on Friday.

“Pinki had been part of the camp while Mary Kom was making a comeback. Mary is a good boxer and an asset for the country. She has been put among the reserves,” said a team source from Patiala.

Seasoned boxer L. Sarita Devi (60kg) and Pooja Rani (75kg) were the other women to make the cut.

Among men, Vijender Singh (75kg), L. Devendro Singh (49kg), Shiva Thapa (56kg), Manoj Kumar (64kg), Mandeep Jangra (69kg), Sumit Sangwan (81kg), Dinesh Kumar (91kg) and Parveen Mor (+91kg) were finalised for the Games.
