London Olympics bronze medallist in 51-kg boxing, M.C. Mary Kom, expressed a desire that her children take up shooting and not boxing, reasoning that as a mother she cannot see them getting hurt. The five-time world boxing champion was speaking after inaugurating the "Seed Gun for Glory" Shooting Championships.
Gagan Narang, bronze medallist in 10m air rifle at 2012 London Games, gifted her an air pistol, model Hammerli AP40, at the Balewadi shooting range where the GFG event, organised by Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation, will be held. Mary Kom shot an air rifle to mark the inauguration.
According to a media release from GFG Shooting Academy, Sunny Thomas, former national shooting coach, Sven Martini, CEO of Walther, Narendra Barhate, MD of SEED Infotech and noted sports psychologist B P Bam, were present.
