September 07, 2009 10:37 am | Updated 10:37 am IST - New Delhi:

Manpreet Singh proved no match for European champion Oleksander Usyk and lost his heavy weight (91kg) opener against the Ukrainian to crash out of the World Boxing Championships in Milan, Italy.

Manpreet, who got a bye in the first round, went down 2-16 in the lop-sided bout in which Usyk bobbed and ducked his way to victory on Sunday night.

The Indian trailed 1-3 in the opening round and couldn’t recover from the poor start.

Usyk extended his lead 5-2 at the end of the second round before going for an all-out attack in the final three minutes to blank the Indian 8-0. Manpreet is the sixth Indian to crash out of the prestigious event.
