Punjab’s Mankirat Singh (Ropar district) set a new meet record in shot put, throwing to a distance of 16.91 metres in the boys’ under-16 category on day two of the 12th National inter-district junior athletics meet at the BHEL Stadium in Haridwar on Saturday.

The previous record of 16.65m was held by Shakti Solanki of Delhi’s North West district. Solanki, though, is the current owner of the National record of 17.89m.

Sirsa’s Saddam Hussain came second with a throw of 15.44m, while Juber Malik of Sonepat was third with 14.73m.
