Manjeet Singh Panghal claims title

Manjeet Singh Panghal defeated Gurleen Singh 7-6 to claim the 69kg title in the 45th National junior boxing championship at the Polo ground, here on Wednesday. In the keenly-fought final bout, the two boxers were locked 1-1 and 4-4 in the first two rounds before Panghal won the decider 3-2.

Defending champion P.L. Prasad recorded a convincing 14-5 win over K. Sagar to retain his 49kg crown. Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) won the team championship with 44 points, while Punjab's Amritpreet Singh (91kg) was adjudged the best boxer of the championship.

The results (finals): 49kg: P.L. Prasad (SSCB) bt K. Sagar (AP) 14-5. 52kg: Dheeraj Singh (SSCB) bt A. Silambarasan (TN) 15-8. 56kg: Aman Indora (Har) bt Mohd. Hussain Uddin (AP) 13-12. 60kg: Nagesh Kharare (Mah) bt Sunil (Odi) 11-9. 64kg: Deepak Tanwar (SSCB) bt Akash Kumar (U.P.) 15-9. 69kg: Manjeet Singh Panghal (Har) bt Gurleen Singh (Pun) 7-6. 75kg: Sandeep Sharma (SSCB) bt Kailash Gill (Chd) 18-9. 81kg: Naveen Kumar (Bih) bt Abhishek Beniwal (SSCB) 20-15. 91kg: Amritpreet Singh (Pun) bt Deepak (SSCB) RSC-OC (R1).

Above-91kg: Narender Berwal (Har) bt Hitesh (Meg) 10-5.
