Mangal and Chekrovolu in semifinals

India's chances of winning a recurve medal in the ongoing first Asian Grand Prix archery tournament will depend upon Mangal Singh Champia and Chekrovolu Swuro. The two moved into the semifinals of the men's and women's categories at Bangkok on Friday.

Three Indian men and two women have also made it to the compound bow section semifinals.

Beijing Olympian Champia will play Spain's Elisa Cuesta for a place in the final, while Chekrovolu will take on Bishindee Urangungalay of Mongolia in the semifinals.

National compound men's champion Rajat Chauhan led three Indians into the semifinals. Chauhan will take on Nguyen Tien Cuong of Vietnam in the semifinals, while Ch. Jignas and Ritul Chatterjee will play each other in the other last four clash.

Jhano Hansdah and Gagandeep Kaur also moved into the semifinals of the women's compound event. Veteran Jhano will meet Ngeain Aung of Myanmar, while Gagandeep will come up against Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh of Malaysia.

All medal round matches of the individual sections will be held on Saturday.
