Former world champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu asserted his class yet again as he won the men’s trap gold in the Shotgun World Cup in Tucson, US, on Friday.

It was an outstanding performance by the 37-year-old Manavjit Sandhu as he beat two-time Olympic champion Michael Diamond of Australia 13-9 in the final.

He had missed the fifth and twelfth birds in the 15-shot final, while former world champion Diamond lost four birds on the trot from the fifth to almost hand over victory to the champion of the recent Indian Shotgun Open, before he confirmed it with the loss of the 11th and 12th birds.

It was the second World Cup gold medal for Manavjit who had won his earlier gold in the Acapulco World Cup in 2010.

The results: Men: Trap: 1. Manavjit Singh Sandhu 13 (121); 2. Michael Diamond (Aus) 9 (119); 3. Alexey Alipov (Rus) 12 (121); 4. Aaron Heading (GBR) 10 (118); 19. Kynan Chenai 114; 28. Mansher Singh 113. MQS: Prithviraj Tondaiman 119.
