Malhotra to continue as IOA President

The acting President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, will continue to execute the role. The IOA President Suresh Kalmadi, out on a bail, has reportedly expressed his inability, at the moment, to focus on the job.

The senior vice-president of IOA, Tarlochan Singh said that Kalmadi had written a letter to Malhotra, stating that he would not be able to devote time for IOA, and wished him the best of luck in handling the task.

With the London Olympics scheduled in July, it was felt prudent to continue with the status quo. It was also felt unnecessary to force anything as the IOA elections are scheduled to be held in October.

It was mentioned that no member had protested against Kalmadi continuing to hold the position as President in two meetings of the IOA, convened after he had been imprisoned. It was argued that Kalmadi himself had not resigned from the position as he had only been accused of a scam and not proven guilty.
