Mahindra’s Oliveira finishes seventh

September 16, 2013 11:54 pm | Updated June 02, 2016 12:40 pm IST - San Marino:

Miguel Oliveira finished seventh after suffering a arm-pump bout in the middle of the race while Efren Vazquez overcame a gearbox lapse to manage a 12th slot for Mahindra Racing in San Marino Grand Prix in Moto3 category of the MotoGP championship here on Sunday.

The 18-year old Portuguese held his place in a tough group, holding his final attack in reserve for the closing stages of the 23-lap race round the 4.226-km Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

But before the halfway stage he was stricken with painful arm-pump problems that made it an ordeal even to finish. Even so, he fought to the end and finished seventh. Spanish star Vazquez had a harder job, after qualifying on the fifth row of the grid. He too was battling for inches in a big gang of Moto3 riders, but a gear-shifting error meant he was also not able to fight to his maximum.

Mahindra remains third in the Constructor Championship, 14 points away from Kalex-KTM.
