The Indian girls put up a brave effort to collectively outclass China and Korea, but were unable to shrug off misfortune at the crunch to claim a much deserved Olympic quota place in air pistol, in the Asian shooting championship in Doha, Qatar, on Monday.
Raj Kumari won the women's prone gold with a score of 594, but there was nothing much at stake as it was not an Olympic event. World champion Tejaswini Sawant was 18th with a score of 582.
Annu Raj Singh who had already won a quota place for London, managed to clinch the individual bronze, to add to the team gold in air pistol, but it was no consolation as Heena Sidhu and Shweta Chaudhry agonisingly missed the quota place with one bad shot each in the 10-shot final.
While Annu Raj asserted her class with a 10.7 last shot to bag the bronze, Heena Sidhu missed the quota place by 0.9 point with a 9.0 last shot.
