Lili improves personal best

West Bengal’s Asian junior champion Lili Das bettered her personal best while finishing 10th in the women’s 1500m at the IAAF World under-20 athletics championship at Bydgoszcz, Poland, on Sunday night.

She had come into the championship with a personal best of 4:20.31 and, with her final run in 4:17.29s, has improved her life best by more than three seconds.

The results (gold medallists and Indian performances in finals only):

Men: 400m hurdles: Jaheel Hyde (Jam) 49.03s. 5000m: Selemon Barega (Eth) 13:21.21s. 3000m steeple chase: Amos Kirui (Ken) 8:20.43s. 4x100m relay: USA (38.93s). Discus: Mohammed Ibrahim Moaaz (Qat) 63.63m.

Women: 200m: Edidiong Ofonime (Brn) 22.84s. 1500m: Adanech Anbesa (Eth) 4:08.07s; 10. Lili Das (Ind) 4:17.29s. 100m hurdles: Elvira Herman (Blr) 12.85s (NMR). 4x100m relay: USA (43.69s).
