Leela Sagar of Hyderabad gave a fine display of his sailing skills at the Hussainsagar Lake on Saturday by winning five out of eight races in the Optimist class competitions of the Deloitte Monsoon Regatta. He came second in two races and in one race his boat capsized. He currently leads the fleet with only nine penalty points.
The weather improved and there were at least two races where the winds touched about 12 knots and held steady in direction.
In all his races, Sagar started cautiously lying fourth or fifth initially before charging ahead. A capsize had him a bit shaken in one race when his boat turned turtle but yet he managed to finish 10th.
Vishal Singh of Pune registered one win but his general consistency has put him in the reckoning for the silver. His position is just ahead of Rishab Nayar of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.
Rishab Nayar won the only heavy wind race of the day where he had an advantage over the light weight Sagar.
