Korea opens a two-shot lead

Defending champion Hyo Joo Kim shot the day's best three-under 69 to help Korea open a two-shot lead over the Philippines on the opening day of the Usha International Queen Sirikit Cup women's golf championship at the Delhi Golf Club course here on Wednesday.

India shared the sixth spot with China and Japan after tallying 152. Two best cards from the three-member teams are taken to account for the purpose of standings.

Gauri Monga (73), Aditi Ashok (79) and Vani Kapoor (84) contributed to a mixed performance for the host. Gauri was sharing the fourth spot in the individual standings after finding herself four shots off Hyo Joo Kim, the leader.

The scores: Hyo Joo Kim (Kor) 69; Dottie Ardina (Phi), Yi Chen Liu (Tpe) 71; Gauri Monga (Ind), Diana Tham (Mal) 73; Breanna Elliott (Aust), Feng Simin (Chn), Chi Wang (Tpe), Lydia Ko (NZL), Sakuro Kito (Jpn) 74; Juriah (Indonesia), Kok Jo Lee (Sing) 75; In Gee Chun (Kor), Ji Hee Kim(Kor), Chihero Ikeda (Jpn) and Cecilia Co (NZL) 76.

Teams: Korea 145; Philippines 147; New Zealand, Malaysia 150; Chinese Taipei 151; 152 India, China and Japan.
