Kiprotich clinches marathon worlds gold

Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda shook off two Ethiopian rivals in the final two kilometres to win the world championship marathon on Saturday.

Kiprotich made the sign of the cross and then raised his arms as he crossed the line in 2 hours 9 minutes 51 seconds in Luzhniki stadium.

Lelisa Desisa, the fastest man of the season had to settle for silver, as he finally fell behind when Kiprotich zigzagged across the street in the closing stages. Tadese Tola got bronze.
