Karthikeyan holds Ivan Popov in International Grandmasters

IM P. Karthikeyan of India held top-seeded GM Ivan Popov of Russia to a draw in the second round of the International Grandmasters chess tournament, organised by Cyber Chess Academy, at KVBR Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday.

The third round, which was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, had to be put off to Wednesday morning because of power failure.

Important results: Second round: P. Karthikeyan 1.5 drew with Ivan Popov (Rus) 1.5; Levan Pantsulaia (Geo) 1.5 drew with Himanshu Sharma 1.5.

Hafizulhelmi (Mas) 1 lost to Vidit Santosh Gujrathi 2; M.R. Lalith Babu 2 bt Soumya Swaminathan 1; Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (Arm) 1.5 drew with Aravindh Chithambaram 1.5; B.S. Shivananda 1 lost to Vladislav Borovikov (Ukr) 2; P.D.S. Girinath 1 lost to Merab Gagunashvili (Geo) 2; Alon Greenfeld (Isr) bt B.T.
