Jitu Rai finishes fifth, Heena misses final

Jitu Rai finished fifth in air pistol in the World Cup Final in Gabala, Azerbaijan, on Saturday. Jitu shot 137.4 and missed the chance to progress further by 0.5 point, to Kojiro Horimizu of Japan.

Jitu had qualified in the third place with a score of 582, following a series of 95, 98, 97, 98, 96 and 98.

However, a string of 9s apart from two shots of 8.9 put paid to his hopes of a medal.

He will compete in the 50-metre free pistol event on Sunday.

Heena Sidhu was unable to make the final in women’s air pistol following a score of 376, in a field of 10 shooters.

The 25-year-old Heena shot a series of 96, 91, 96 and 93, as she missed the final by two points.

Men: 10m air pistol: 1. Sergey Chervyakovskiy (Rus) 200.4 (573); 2. Pablo Carrera (Esp) 199.9 (575); 3. Pang Wei (Chn) 177.4 (582); 5. Jitu Rai 137.4 (582).

Women:

10m air pistol: 1. Alejandra Zavala (Mex) 201.5 (378); 2. Klaudia Bres (Pol) 200.6 (379); 3. Celine Goberville (Fra) 176.2 (383); 9. Heena Sidhu 376.
