Japan blanks India

India suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Japan in its third and final Group-A tie of the Uber Cup badminton tournament here on Wednesday.

In the first singles, Akane Yamaguchi put it across Saina Nehwal 21-19, 9-21, 22-20 in a match that lasted 54 minutes.

In the first doubles, Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi hammered Sanyogita Ghorpade and Prajakta Sawant 21-15, 21-6 to give Japan a 2-0 lead.

India’s poor performance continued in the third match as Vaishnavi Reddy lost to Nozomi Okuhara 10-21, 13-21 in just 26 minutes.

The result: Japan bt India 5-0 (Akane Yamaguchi bt Saina Nehwal 21-19, 9-21, 22-20; Misaki Matsutomo & Ayaka Takahashi bt Sanyogita Ghorpade & Prajakta Sawant 21-15, 21-6; Nozomi Okuhara bt J. Vaishnavi Reddy 21-10, 21-13; Shiho Tanaka & Koharu Yonemoto bt Vaishnavi Bhale & J. Meghana 21-8, 21-17; Sayaka Takahashi bt Anura Prabhudesai 21-12, 21-7.
