IOB retains Jeppiar Trophy

Indian Overseas Bank retained the Jeppiaar Trophy for the All-India basketball Tournament hosted by the Jeppiaar Institute of Technology beating ONGC 59-45 on Friday at the JIT campus courts, Sriperumbudur. The winners led 36-26 at half-time.

It was a close contest in which IOB maintained fairly comfortable control throughout the game. Vineet Ravi Mathew was outstanding for IOB with a personal tally of 19 points. He was supported well by Harish Korat and Pratham Singh. Fittingly, Vineet Mathew was declared the Man of the Match.

IOB collected a cash prize of Rs.1,25,000, while ONGC picked up Rs. 75,000.

Earlier, Indian Army claimed the third place beating Indian Navy 66-55. Shashant Rai of JIT, who was adjudged the most valuable player, was presented an Apache motorcycle.

Mr. Ravi, IG (Vigilance-Aavin), the chief guest gave away the trophies and awards in the presence of Marie Wilson, Director, JIT.

The scores: Final: IOB 59 (Vineeth Ravi Mathew 19, Harish Korat 16, Pratham Singh 15) beat ONGC 45 (Murali Krishna 11, Mohit Bhandari 10) [HT: 36-26];

Play-off for 3rd Place: Indian Army 66 (Sridhar 18, Jairam Jat 14, Arokiya Babu 11) beat. Indian Navy 55 (Venkatesh 16, Mandeep Singh 15, Settu 15) [HT: 29-26].
