October 12, 2014 01:33 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:30 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here will witness some intense action over the next week when top archers of the country try to assert their supremacy in the National archery championship in order to make it to their respective State teams for the National Games, to be held in Kerala early next year.

The National championship will start with the Indian round, the competition with traditional bamboo bows, on Sunday before moving on to the better-known compound and recurve events.

Around 700 archers in three categories are expected to compete in the championship.

The compound archers, who tasted success in the recently-concluded Incheon Asian Games, would be riding on their confidence.

owever, recurve archers, including Deepika Kumari, L. Bombayala Devi and Laxmirani Majhi, Jayanta Talukdar, Atanu Das, Rahul Banerjee and Tarundeep Rai will try to make amends for their Asiad disappointment.
