Indian women beach kabaddi team wins gold

Indian women’s beach kabaddi team grabbed the gold after thrashing hosts Thailand 61-28 in the final match on the concluding day, as the country finished 20th in the overall medal tally in the Asian Beach Games in Phuket on Sunday.

The Indian women led 34-13 at halftime and extended their supremacy by adding another 27 points to Thailand’s 15 in the second session to win the match easily.

The six-member Indian team was led by Mamatha with the other members being Priyanka, Randeep Kaur, Kakoli Biswas, Payel Chowdhury and Parameswari Ambalavanan.

The Indian men’s beach kabaddi team bagged a bronze after losing to Pakistan 28-39 in the semifinals, yesterday.

Iran won the men’s kabaddi gold after defeating Pakistan 40-27 in the final on Sunday.

India bagged 10 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 7 bronze) to end at 20th. The other gold for India was won by Harinder Pal Sandhu in men’s singles squash event on November 16.

Hosts Thailand finished on top with 126 medals (56 gold, 37 silver, 33 bronze) followed by China (48 medals) and South Korea (37).
