Indian team for WC

Tarun Sirohi will lead a six-member Indian team in the zonal competition of the World Cup polo championship to be staged at Kuantan and Pahang, Malaysia, from June 11.

In zone 'D', there will be seven teams, Australia, Malaysia, India, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa and Pakistan, representing Asia, Africa and Oceania.

The Indian team will practise and train in Indonesia from May 20 to June 10, at the Nusantara Polo Club.

India will play its first match in the qualification zonal competition against Australia on June 14 and against host Malaysia on June 17.

The semifinals will be played on June 21 and the final on June 25.

The ninth World Cup polo championship is scheduled to be held in Argentina in October. The top two countries from each of the four zones will make it to the World Cup.

India had recently visited South Africa and New Zealand for a series of matches.

The team: Vishal Chauhan, Ravi Rathore, Samir Suhag, Tarun Sirohi (captain), Simran Shergill, Gaurav Sahgal.
