NEW DELHI: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has selected a 13-member Indian team for the eighth Asian Indoor Athletics championship to be held in Tehran from February 1 to 3.

The selection committee, with Olympian Gurbachan Singh Randhawa as the chairman, has also selected a 36-member squad to compete in the Asian Games Test event in Jakarta from Feb. 11 to 14.

Jakarta is scheduled to host the 18th Asian Games from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2.

The secretary of the AFI, C.K. Valson, stated that the athletes were selected on the basis of performances in international and national events including the national junior championship.

“The team is short as we have excluded certain events due to inexperience of our athletes on a 200m track,” Valson said.
