Indian players disappoint

March 18, 2010 11:40 pm | Updated 11:40 pm IST - New Delhi:

With both their singles and doubles challengers crashing out in the opening round itself, India's campaign came to a disappointing end in the Swiss Open Super Series badminton tournament in St. Jakobshalle, Switzerland.

The women's singles draw didn't feature a single Indian and the two who were there in the men's draw couldn't pull off wins despite fighting hard on Wednesday.

Olympian Anup Sridhar lost 13-21, 21-15, 20-22 in a 55-minute contest against Wan Ho Shon of Korea. Compatriot Chetan Anand went down 21-12, 15-21, 18-21 to Kenichi Tago of Japan in 52 minutes.

Indians did no better in the doubles events as sixth seeds Jwala Gutta and V. Diju lost 19-21, 21-17, 18-21 against Japan's Hirokatsu Hashimoto and Mizuki Fujii.

There was more disappointment for Jwala as she and Ashwini Ponappa lost 15-21, 21-18, 9-21 to top seeds Eei Hui Chin and Pei Tty Wong of Malaysia in 40 minutes.
