Indian badminton team for CWG announced

There was no surprise in India’s badminton squad for the Commonwealth Games announced here on Thursday.

World number two and favourite for the ladies singles gold, Saina Nehwal spearheads the host’s campaign. Chetan Anand will be the country’s best bet in the men’s singles. Besides Saina, the other gold medal prospect is the mixed doubles combination of V. Diju and G. Jwala.

The team: Men: Chetan Anand, P. Kashyap, Sanave Thomas, Rupesh Kumar and V. Diju.

Women: Saina Nehwal, Aditi Mutatkar, G. Jwala, Ashwani Ponnappa and Aparna Balan.

Coaches: P. Gopi Chand, Atik Jauhari, P. U. Bhaskar Babu, Vijaydeep Singh and Archana Deodhar. Manager: Pradeep Gandhe.
