India picks up six medals

India won six medals in the Chile Open table tennis tournament at Santiago that ended on Sunday. Apart from winning the under-21 men's singles gold medal through Soumyajit Ghosh, five more medals — three silver and two bronze medals — also came India's way.

According to information received here, Harmeet Desai, beaten by Ghosh in the under-21 men's final, got a silver medal. Manika Batra won another silver losing in the final of the women's under-21 singles. The Indian women's doubles team of K. Shamini and Madhurika Patkar also won silver after losing to the Japanese pair of Sayaka Hirano and Kasumi Ishikawa 4-11, 8-11, 5-11, 4-11 in the final

The two bronze medals were taken by the Indian men's doubles pair of Harmeet Desai and Soumyajit Ghosh and Sourav Chakraborty and Sanil Shetty.
