India outplays Sri Lanka

February 26, 2012 12:11 am | Updated 12:11 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Indian team continued with its domination as it outclassed Sri Lanka 93-45 after leading 47-23 at half-time in a league match of the Middle Asia Zone qualifying men's under-18 basketball tournament at the Thyagaraj Stadium here on Saturday.

With the main players scoring well and with almost everyone getting into the shooting act, the Indian team played smart to lead 78-32 at the end of the third quarter, but eased to a smooth finish, rather than pressing hard to break the 100 mark in its second successive match.

It was the second victory for the host which had overwhelmed Nepal 120-41 in its first encounter. India will play Bangladesh on Sunday morning, in the four-team competition.

The winner of the tournament will qualify for the 22nd FIBA Asia under-18 championship to be staged in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from August 17 to 26.

The results (league): India 93 (Rakesh 18, Loveneet Singh 15, Pal Preet Singh 12, Ajay Pratap Singh 11, Narender 11) bt Sri Lanka 45 (Praveen Antony 18, Rajith 13).

Bangladesh 78 (Akash 21, Soyab 15, Abir 14, Mehedi 11, Linkon 10) bt Nepal 54 (Ashim Shrestha 11, Ayush Singh 10).
