There was no stopping the Varsha Gautham-Aishwarya Nedunchezhiyan juggernaut. The duo won all the three races in the 29er class with impressive leads on the second day of the India International Regatta at the Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
The fight is now for the second and third positions. The Swedish pair of Hanna Hoije and Emma Fridolfsson finished second in two of the races and climbed to second position ahead of Pawan and Navneet who lag behind by just two points. India’s Vishnu Saravanan sailed brilliantly to win all the three races in the Laser Radial category. Overnight leader Riley Cameron finished second in all three races with the result that the two are now tied for the top spot and their tussle in the remaining races will be interesting. In Laser 4.7, Vishnu Sujeesh excelled winning two of the three races with a second in race 5. He climbed to the top unseating Christopher Bezy, who was found to have been over the line in one of the races and penalised as he dropped to fifth position.
Robbie McCutcheon from New Zealand sailed flawlessly, winning all three races to climb to the top of the pile of the Optimist class. The wind was a tad lighter at an average of 15 knots, but remained steady from the North-East. However the sea state remained high with huge swells.
