Archery chief coach Limba Ram feels that the Indian contingent would do well in the 17th Asian Archery championship to be held in Tehran from October 18 to 23.
“Our archers are in fine shape and should do well in the Asian meet. In the last Asian championship held in Bally, two years ago India got a total of six medals - 2 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes. This time I am hopeful that Indian team would earn more medals from this meet,” he told reporters here today.
“The competition at Tehran would be tough. The standard here would be like a world championship as many top archers in the world from South Korea and China would be in Tehran,” he added.
Limba said the Indian team is also well prepared after regular participation at various international tournaments, winning medals and hard training.
Paresh Mukherjee, secretary general of Archery Association of India informed that the team will leave for Tehran tomorrow.
Following is the Indian team for Asian Archery Championships:
Recurve (men): Jayanta Talukdar, Tarun Deep Rai, Rahul Banerjee and Atanu Das.
Recurve (women): Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi, Chakravelu Swuro and Rimil Burily.
Compound (men): Ritul Chatterjee, Ching Lim Sana, C H Jignas and K H Ratan Singh.
Compund (women): Jhunu Hansda, Namita Yadav, Jyoti Sureka and Manjuldha Soy.
Besides Limba Ram, four other coaches - Ravi Shankar and Purnima Mahato (both recurve) and Richpal Singh and D Saiswary (both compound) are also accompanying the team.
