As expected, India dominated the opposition in all four sections, without even dropping a game, on the opening day of the South Asian junior table tennis championship at the Indira Gandhi Stadium here on Saturday.
In the junior boys’ section, India drubbed Pakistan and Bhutan to set up a semifinal clash with Sri Lanka. In the other group, Nepal topped beating Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The other semifinal will be between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
In junior girls, too, India will take on Sri Lanka for the gold medal on Sunday.
In the cadet section, the Indian boys will take on Nepal for a place in the final. In the league, the host made it past Bangladesh and Pakistan. Sri Lanka topped its group, ahead of Nepal and Bhutan.
In the three-nation cadet girls’ championship, India and Sri Lanka beat Nepal by turns to set up Sunday’s final.
