IBL auction scene lacks sheen

June 29, 2013 02:44 am | Updated 02:44 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The apprehensions surrounding the failure of the inaugural Indian Badminton League to attract marquee names from the creamy layer of the game have come true.

All the leading Chinese players have not entered the auction, slated here on July 19.

There will be five Indians among six ‘icon’ players in the one-million dollar prize-money league.

The six-team league will be played from August 14 to 31, with Mumbai hosting the final. The teams in the fray are: Hyderabad HotShots, Karnataka Kings, Lucknow Warriors, Mumbai Masters, Pune Vijetas and Rajdhani Smashers.

Saina Nehwal, P. Kashyap, P.V. Sindhu, G. Jwala and Ashwini Ponappa will be joined by one overseas player in the list of ‘icon’ players, whose bid will commence from $50,000.
