Livid with the suspended Indian Boxing Federation’s antics, International Boxing Association (AIBA) president Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu has said the world body will now work with the IOA to “get to a position where it will be possible to hold new elections” for the IBF.
In a sternly-worded missive after receiving information about the suspended IBF’s plan to hold an Annual General Meeting on November 9, Mr. Wu has stated that the IBF “does not have any validly appointed officers” at the moment.
“Since the September 2012 IABF AGM and elections, AIBA has worked to try and find a way forward for boxing in India.
The process has become increasingly difficult due to the opposing positions adopted by various factions within the IABF,” Mr. Wu said in a letter, which has, among others, also been addressed to India’s representative in the AIBA Executive Committee member Kishen Narsi.
“There is an obvious reluctance on the part of these groups to work together. Thus, it is now clear to AIBA that we will need to work with the Indian Olympic Association in order to reach a solution and to get to a position where it will be possible to hold new elections
“As you are aware, the IOA is currently experiencing its own difficulties and has been suspended by the International Olympic Committee. Until such time as IOA’s suspension is lifted, AIBA will no longer take any further action in relation to the IABF,” he added.
The letter comes in the wake of the IBF Secretary General Rajesh Bhandari’s mail to all the state units calling for an AGM on November 9 here.
The units opposing the current IBF set-up wrote to AIBA seeking a clarification, prompting the world body to issue a fresh rejoinder on its position.
