IAF defeats Kochi Customs

Indian Air Force (New Delhi) defeated Customs & Central Excise (Kochi) 77-63 in a men's semifinal league match of the 53rd all-India basketball tournament for the L.R.G. Naidu Memorial Cup on Tuesday.

Earlier, Customs (Chennai), IOB (Chennai), IAF and Customs & Central Excise entered the men's semifinal league at the end of the knock-out phase.

The results: Men: Semifinal league: Indian Air Force 77 bt Customs & Central Excise 63 (Monish Wilson 25).

Knock-out: IAF59 (Praveen 12, Joginder 11) bt ICF (Chennai) 49 (Balaji 19, Seenivasan 11). Customs & Central Excise 75 (Monish Wilson 18) bt Indian Navy (Lonavla) 69 (Vipin Kannan 18, Sethu 14). Women (K.C.P. Indirani Memorial Cup): League: SCR (Sec'bad) 69 (Anusha 22, Kawaijit Kaur 14) bt Rising Star (Chennai) 42 (Aishwarya 12).

Chitra to lead

M. Chitra will lead the Stateteam in the South Zone junior women's hockey championship in Dindigul from June 10 to 15 and the team will attend a camp at the Dindigul District Stadium from May 28 to June 9.

S. Samual (five for 46) and Shoaib (four for 62) ensured Flakt India script a 17-run win over Krishnaraj in a first division match of the Kancheepuram DCA league recently.

The scores:I Div.: Flakt India 157 for eight in 32 overs (Jagadeesan 51, Suresh three for 37) bt Krishnaraj 140 in 30.3 overs (Manohar 41, S. Samual five for 46, Shoaib four for 62).

II Div: Air India 191 for seven in 30 overs (S. Sriram 36) bt Mani Memorial 147 in 26 overs (Krishnakumar five for 48); Chromepet 178 for five in 30 overs (M. Muruganantham 73 n.o., S. Tharvendan 42 n.o.) bt Royal Gems 136 for six in 30 overs (N.K. Nivedhan 65 n.o.); Facit Asia 93 in 26 overs (Vijay 33, Ajith three for 23) lost to Saralee 96 for five in 27.1 (Bharath 33 n.o.).

Padmanaban, Prabhu, and Ramesh sizzle

Centuries from S. Padmanaban and R. Ramesh and a six-wicket haul by V. Prabhu helped 20th Century score a 56-run win over Jupiter in the TNCA IV division championship play-off match.

The scores: 20th Century 320 in 49.4 overs (S. Padmanaban 119, R. Ramesh 112, S. Gopinath seven for 94) bt Jupiter 264 in 49.1 overs (A.M. Narayan 53, Vel Murugan 43, M. Suresh Kumar 38, V. Prabhu six for 69).
