Heena Sidhu snatches victory

World Cup Final gold medallist Heena Sidhu recaptured her form to snatch victory by 0.1 point from another World Cup gold medallist Rahi Sarnobat in women’s air pistol in the National shooting trials on Wednesday.

In rapid fire pistol, Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar dominated yet again, even though he qualified in the fourth place with 576. National championship silver medallist Akshay Suhas Ashtaputre missed the final by two points.

Raghunath sparkles

In men’s air rifle, former Asian champion P. T. Raghunath stole the show 0.3 point ahead of Chain Singh, while National silver medallist Ashok Chavanke did well to push Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang to the fourth place.

In free pistol, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Omkar Singh beat the national champion Prakash Nanjappa by 2.8 points for the top slot.

Rapid fire pistol: 1. Vijay Kumar 31 (576); 2. Mahendar Singh 28 (578); 3. Shivraj Sase 23 (568).

Free pistol: 1. Omkar Singh 189.8 (552); 2. Prakash Nanjappa 187.0 (555); 3. Samaresh Jung 166.8 (550).

Air rifle: 1. P. T. Raghunath 206.0 (620.0); 2. Chain Singh 205.7 (623.4); 3. Ashok Chavanke 183.9 (618.7).

Women: Air pistol: 1. Heena Sidhu 197.7 (386); 2. Rahi Sarnobat 197.6 (379); 3. Sonia Rai 177.2 (378).
