Gagan A.P. of Jain University produced a meet mark in the men’s 200m individual medley with a time of 2:13.08s in the all-India inter-University aquatics championship at the Subhas Sarobar Complex in Kolkata on Saturday.
Rohit Havaldar of Bangalore and Kshipra Mahajan of Rajiv Gandhi were the toast of the penultimate day of the five-day meet as they not only emerged the fastest of the respective sections but also scooped up two golds each.
Gagan, who arrived from Pune after participating in the senior National meet, meant business straightaway as he powered to gold. In the process he erased Rehan Poncha’s record time of 2:14.47 set in 2006.
The London Olympian, thereafter, played second fiddle to Havaldar in the 50mfreestyle and 100m backstroke.
Kshipra too won the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke and proved to be the lone medal winner in the past four days for Rajiv Gandhi University.
C. Ayshwarya of Anna, who looked to be in lead in the backstroke event, was adjudged second which made the Anna University coaching staff furious. The verbal protest, however, was not entertained.
