VIJAYAWADA: Minister for Sports Kollu Ravindra on Monday said that the State Government has selected Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Amaravati as the future sports cities of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking at the logo release function of 5th South Zone Sepak Takraw Championship here, he said these cities will get the best of infrastructure to meet the sporting requirements of each region. “Ten academies are also coming up at various cities and towns by August 15. Among the ten four water sports academies are also coming up,” said the minister.
Mr Ravindra said that efforts are on to develop Guntur’s Brahmanada Reddy Stadium on private public partnership and the finalisation of the tenders will be completed soon.
He promised a new look to all the indoor and outdoor stadiums in Vijayawada as both Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will discuss and come out with a plan in the next months.
Replying to the question he said that efforts are on to develop playfields in all 175 assembly constituencies. “Our aim is to development infrastructure in the next two years paving away for staging of national and international events”.
He said soon the MoU will be signed with Vizag Steel Plant for the development of sports. “We have allotted 400 acres in Amaravati exclusively to develop various infrastructures in sports and games”.
He appreciated the Andhra Pradesh Sepak Takraw Association for selecting Vijayawada as the venue for the premium tourney which will feature seven states from the zone.
Mr. Ravindra said that the three-day tournament will be hosted at DRR indoor stadium from August 28 to 30.
