All the Indian recurve archers barring Tarundeep Rai (men) and Bombayala Devi (women) reached the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games archery competition at the Yamuna Sports Complex here on Tuesday.
Ranked No. 1 and 2 respectively, Deepika Kumari and Dola Banerjee, cruised to the last eight stage. Deepika blanked Tan Wendy Liu Jie of Singapore 4-0 while Dola had the measure of Malaysia's Kim Ng Sui 4-2. Bombayala crashed out in the last 16 to Feeney Alexandra of Australia 4-2.
Rahul, top-ranked in the men's section, didn't have much problems in defeating Bangladesh's Sheik Sojeb 4-0. Jayanta Talukdar, ranked No. 2, qualified for the quarterfinals with a 5-1 win over Cyprus' Constantin Christodoulou 5-1.
Rai lost to Malaysia's Sian Chu Cheng 4-0. Three-time Olympian Matthew Gray of Australia defeated Duenas Crispin of Canada 4-0 to advance.
Two-time Olympian Deonne Bridger of Australia was the surprise casualty when she bowed out to Vanessa Tze Rong Loh of Singapore 5-1 in the pre-quarterfinals.
