On the eve of the first ever National Racing Championship featuring both four-wheelers and two-wheelers, the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India (FMSCI) was excited to bring both the races together at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) here.
The weekend will feature the MRF F1600, Toyota EMR, the Indian Touring Cars (ITC) and Indian Junior Touring Cars (IJTC) in the four-wheeler category. The two-wheeler races will include the TVS Apache RTR-180, Yamaha Y2F R15, Honda CBR 250 and NRC Experts up to 165cc.
Great opportunity
FMSCI President Vicky Chandhok hoped that the congregation of international manufacturers like Toyota, Yamaha, Honda and Indian motor racing giants MRF Tyres and TVS Racing would open up opportunities for youngsters who wanted to make a career in motorsports.
“International competitions are very expensive. My job is to work with my team to strengthen the National racing. We should feel proud about winning the title here. People should be able to earn a living,” said Chandhok on Friday.
Enhancing quality
He said the gathering of different manufacturers would enhance the quality. “Each is looking at the other and trying to give the best. It is good for the drivers and the riders. I hope by 2015, outsiders will want to race in our championship.” Chandhok said there was no safety issue at a world class venue like the BIC, which would host the first ever two-wheeler racing.
Speaking about the success of MRF Formula 2000 cars last season, J. Anand, who develops cars for MRF Racing through JA Motorsport, said it would be a good chance for the young drivers. “Drivers who win in the Formula 1600 cars here will get a free drive in the Formula 2000 cars during the Indian Grand Prix Formula One race.”
In Formula 1600, Ashwin Sundar wrapped up the championship in the last round in Chennai but young Tarun Reddy, Advait Deodhar and Vikash Anand will look forward to making a mark here.
There will be several interesting battles in other races over the weekend.
