Ecclestone trying to revive South African GP

December 19, 2014 06:46 pm | Updated 06:46 pm IST - MOSCOW

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone said he is keen to return South Africa to the schedule.

There has not been an F1 race in Africa since the last South African Grand Prix in 1993.

Ecclestone told R-Sport “We’re in the middle of trying to do something in South Africa,” and that it would “be nice to get back there.”

A return to South Africa was mooted in 2011 with a possible street circuit in Cape Town, but the city council rejected the idea in 2013, saying it would be too noisy.
