Easy for seeds

The top stars advanced without much fuss after the first two rounds of the New India Assurance 73rd National sub-junior and cadet table tennis championships at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here on Sunday.

The boys from Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and the PSPBA did well to keeping their lead billing in the cadet section while the girls from Rajasthan, Maharashtra ‘B' and Andhra Pradesh progressed comfortably.

The entire set of matches turned out to be a mere formality for the higher-ranked players in the sub-junior girls' category as they moved to the second round.

However, Preeti Yadav of Rajasthan had to use all her experience to down Disha Gupta of Karantaka 8-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9.

The script in the sub-junior boys' section was no different with the top seeds just mowing down their opponents in the first round.
