Dubai International open chess: Abhijeet Gupta continues to be in the hunt

Former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta stayed in the hunt with a lucky victory over Pavel Kotsur of Kazakhstan in the sixth round of the Dubai International open chess tournament here.

Romain Edouard downed Vladimir Akopian of Armenia to remain in sole lead with 5.5 points.

Among the other Indians in the fray, Grandmaster Debashish Das was at the top of his game in holding Gawain Jones of England. M.R. Lalith Babu ended on the losing side against Tigran Petrosian after a long drawn queen and pawn endgame. Grandmaster Sahaj Grover beat Iranian girl Dorsa Derakhshani to take his tally to four.
