Dolly Byramji dead

Former India swimmer Dolly Byramji (76), wife of trainer Rashid Byramji, passed away in Bangalore on Tuesday morning. She represented India in the swimming events at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952.

Hailing from a family of sportspersons she was a national swimming champion at the age of 11.

Closely associated with the country's horse racing fraternity she helped her husband in the stables during his early years.

A philanthropist she was the treasurer of the Sheila Kothavala Institute for the Deaf.

Ms Byramji leaves behind her husband Rashid and son Darius Byramji.
