Squash ace Dipika Pallikal rose to rank 13 from the 14 she was last month, as per the latest world rankings. Another Indian to impress was Joshna Chinappa who was the highest mover in the top 50 by jumping 18 rungs to be at 32.
Joshna’s rise comes after her two recent good shows, a semifinal finish as a qualifier in the Macao Open and then winning the title in the Penang Open. The Indian had missed much of the Tour programme because of injury problems which saw her drop in the world standings.
With no WISPA tournaments scheduled in November and the World Open and Hong Kong Open in December, Dipika has a good chance of reaching her 2012 goal of being in the top 10.
Among the other international players, New Zealand’s Joelle King had the most impressive run, taking the fifth spot, advancing by seven rungs.
The 24-year-old from Cambridge, New Zealand touched a remarkable run of form in the past month claiming the Macau Open as top seed and came close to dislodging the world’s long-standing top player Nicol David in the World Series Delaware Investments US Open.
She also did well to reach the final in the China Open, beating higher seeds Annie Au and Alison Waters en route.
