Indians make early exit

The Indians, with the exception of current world No. 6 Deepika Kumari, made their exit early in the individual events of the World Cup archery Stage 3 at Medellin in Colombia. But Deepika also lost in the quarterfinals to the ultimate finalist Miranda Leek of the U.S. 2-6.

China, of course, did well but the Indians failed to perform to the expectations.

All the top Indian archers, Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das (men’s recurve), L. Bombayla Devi (women’s recurve) and Rajat Chauhan (men’s compound) were eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals stage while the rest either fell in the round of 32 or earlier.

Important results: Recurve: Men: T. Rai lost to B. Ellison (U.S.) 2-6 in pre-quarterfinals (26-28, 29-28, 28-29, 27-29); A. Das lost to Jianping Zhang (Chn) 2-6 in pre-quarterfinals (29-25, 28-29, 27-29, 27-29).

Women: Deepika lost to Miranda Leek (U.S.) 2-6 in quarterfinals (27-29, 26-29, 29-25, 28-29); Bombayla lost to Inna Stepanova (Rus) 2-6 in pre-quarterfinals (28-28,27-29, 27-27, 26-27); Rimil Buriuly lost to Lya Solano (Dom) 3-7 in R-32 (25-25, 29-28, 25-27, 24-26, 27-29).

Compound: Men: Rajat Chauhan lost to Dominique Genet (Fra) in pre-quarterfinals 146-147; Sandeep Kumar lost to Julio Ricardo Fierro (Mex) in R-32, 141-145; Abhishek Verma and Kh. Ratan Singh lost in the first round.

Women: V. Jyothi Surekha lost to Albina Loginova (Rus) in pre-quarterfinals 141-145; Manjudha Soy lost to Surekha in R-32 140-140 (9*-9) in tie-breaker; Trisha Deb lost to Manjudha in first round 139-143; P. Lily Chanu lost to Sophie Dodemont (Fra) in R-32, 131-143.
