Deepika in individual recurve World Cup final

Deepika Kumari moved into the final of the women’s individual recurve event of the World Cup Stage I at Shanghai on Thursday.

As the rest of the Indian archers fell early in both recurve and compound sections, young Rajat Chauhan was the only other Indian to reach the men’s compound bow quarterfinals where he lost to USA’s Dave Cousins.

Deepika made it to the individual elimination as the No. 8 seed. After getting a bye in the first round, she made it to the quarterfinals where she eliminated Anastasia Pavlova of Ukraine 6-4 and downed fifth-seeded Joo Hyun-Jung of Korea 7-3 in the semifinals.

The Indian mixed pair team of Jayanta Talukdar and Deepika Kumari reached the final with facile wins. India defeated Mexico 146-140 in the semifinals, ousted Japan 145-143 in the quarterfinals and eliminated Australia 143-135 in the pre-quarterfinals.

The results: Men’s compound quarterfinals: Dave Cousins (US) bt Rajat Chauhan (Ind) 149-146. Women’s recurve semifinal: Deepika Kumari (Ind) bt Joo Hyun-Jung (Kor) 7-3 (26-26, 28-27, 25-27, 29-26, 28-26); Quarterfinal: Deepika bt Anastasia Pavlova (Ukr) 6-4 (25-27, 28-26, 26-25, 25-28, 28-26).
