The SDAT-AKG Table Tennis Development Centre felicitated the Commonwealth games medal winners in the sport from Tamil Nadu in a function at the Hall of Table Tennis, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, on Tuesday.
Achanta Sharath Kamal (gold in men's doubles and bronze in singles and team), K. Shamini (silver in women's team), Abishek and A. Amalraj (bronze in men's team) were honoured at the function.
Sharath, Amalraj absent
Sharath Kamal and Amalraj could not make it to the ceremony due to commitments abroad while Shamini and Abishek were presented commemorative mementos and garlands.
“It feels great to win a medal. I won a bronze during the last Commonwealth Games and silver this time. Looking forward to doing better in the forthcoming Asian Games,” said Shamini.
“I feel honoured and proud as this is my first medal at such a high profile event,” said Abishek.
Rajath Kamal, a sports analyst at the Games, was also honoured.
R.S. Munirathinam, Chairman, RMK Group of Institutions, inaugurated a fitness centre at the Hall of Table Tennis during the ceremony.
Also present were TNAA President W.I. Dawaram, Velammal Educational Trust CEO M.V.M. Velmurugan, TNTTA Hon. Secretary D.V. Sundar, Arjuna Awardee G. Jagannath and MDTTA Secretary J. Selvakumar.
