A member of the men’s 4x100m relay team, which was provisionally selected for the Commonwealth Games, is learnt to have tested positive for steroid. The athlete, who tested positive on July 8, has been put under provisional suspension.
Speaking from Glasgow, AFI president Adille Sumariwalla said, “I do not have any information on this.”
In mid-July, the Athletics Federation of India had decided not to send the men’s 4x100m relay team to Glasgow because of “poor timing” in the trials. Besides, two members of the team were said to be injured.
“They fared badly and two relay runners were also injured,” AFI secretary C.K. Valson had said.
The relay team, comprising Mohammad Baba, Manikanta Raj, Vikas Gulia and Anirudh Gujjar, had clocked 40.85s in the trials held in the first week of July.
On July 12, with Manish replacing Manikanta, the team could manage 41.71s.
