Clean Sports India, with athlete Ashwini Nachappa as its president, has written to the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Jacques Rogge, countering the observations of the acting president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, that the government was posing a hindrance to the return of India into the Olympic movement.
“It is on our request that Mr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of Sports, has constituted a committee under an eminent jurist, to draft a law, which includes all stakeholders.
“We assure you that it is not an exercise to destroy the autonomy. It is an exercise to protect the autonomy of Olympic bodies and seek good governance and accountability,” the letter said.
The communication, which was signed by the convenor of Clean Sports India, B. V. P. Rao, also stated that the sporting community in the country had been demanding a fair system of elections for all the sports federations.
“We request you to send a high-level IOC mission to India for a week to study the ground situation, meet all stakeholders, and make a factual report for you to take a course of direction to save Indian sports,” the letter said.
